This book is a about a boy called Jamie Riley who is sent to Port Barren because he was found in a stolen car. However Jamie doesn't think much of Port Barren, he never suspected that he would have the biggest adventure of his life over there. After reading the prologue and the blob at the back of the book, (I won't write the whole thing again because Fatima and Tauhaa have already done it) I wanted to read on very strongly because I thought that somebody would find out about the murder that Elliot committed on that ship. I thought that those pair of eyes would be witnesses to that crime. My predictions proved right because those pair of eyes were the eyes of a foreign girl who made it to the island(I won't say how) and disappeared mysteriously just before the translator came from the city. I really liked this book because it was action packed and full of suspense which excited me a lot while reading it. It also taught me new stuff. I strongly recommend this book for advanced readers and those who are not afraid of guns and murder(since there was a part that included these stuff)

Dragon Rider-Cornelia Funke

Dragon Rider is a book that was originally published in German in the year 1997. It was translated to English in the year 2004 by Anthea Bell.

I have read the blob and the first chapter so far and I find that this book is actually dragging me into it. How can a human be a threat to dragons when they have this melting fire breath and these huge pointy claws and this huge body? How does a human boy get involved with this adventure if the point of all the commotion is to get away safely from the humans? Why isn't a rat named Rat going on the journey with Firedrake, a dragon, and Sorrel, a brownie? And who is Gilbert Greytail? I hope that I will know the answers to these questions as I read more. In fact, Iknow that I would.

WORM STORY!!!!

I havent finished reading the book yet but what i have read is pretty good its quite funny i think the rest of the book is going to be good and i cant wait to finish reading it so that i can go on to other books wich i hope will be as good as this book that i am reading now

spilled water

am reading a book called (spilled water) that fatima recomended to me , i didnt finish it yet . its really interesting .

Its about a girl , her uncle sells her to a family for money and then the family makes her do all the work with out being payed .

Lord of the Flies

Lord of the Flies is a survival book about a group of boys who find themselves lost on an island after a plane crash. The story does not follow the normal storyline (like Hatchet, where the person is rescued and all seems fine in the end). They see night time as an enemy, as their dreams take over and the belief of a beast haunting the top of the mountain. Some become savages and their lust for meat and blood takes over them. At first, Jack and his hunters start killing native pigs for meat. After an argument with the chief (Ralph, who urges them to stay together), they form two tribes. As psychological problems grow, the boys end up killing one of their own.

I have not finished this book yet and I really enjoy this book. My predictions are that more savagery will follow and maybe more bloodshed. This is a sample text from the excellent work of William Golding's Lord of the Flies:

The dark sky was shattered by a blue-white scar. An instant later the noise was on them like the blow of a gigantic whip. The chant rose a tone in agony.

"Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill the blood!"
Now out of the terror rose another desire, thick, urgent, blind.
"Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill the blood!"

Again the blue-white scar jagged above them and sulfurous explosions beat down. The littluns screamed and blundered about, fleeing from the edge of the forest, and one of them broke the ring of biguns in terror.

P.188

Softly, surrounded by a fringe of inquisitive bright creatures, itself a silver shape beneath the steadfast constellations, Simon's dead body moved out towards the sea.

P.190

As you can see, this book is not for the faint-hearted (but it is so good that they should read it anyway). I cannot wait to finish it and I would like to see what would happen. It feels so real, that it makes you think--would you become like the boys if you were stranded on an island?

Looking for Alabrandi-Melina Marchetta

Looking for Alabrandi was recommended to me by my classmates in grade 9, Fatima and Samar. This book is about a girl called Josephine Alabrandi who is an illegitimate and she lives with her mother. She is at her final year in a wealthy Catholic school. Josie starts going out with another boy called Jacob. What will she face when suddenly her father comes back to her life. How will she treat him and how will her future turn out to be? Will it be a good one or will it be a bad one where she can't find love and family?

Ella Enchanted (Fatima)

I'm reading the book Ella Enchanted and its really good. Its very interesting and has a good story line. Part of it is like Cinderella but its really good. I'm enjoying it. Its about a girl named Ella who's under a spell which whenever she is ordered to do something she must obey without saying no.

This is a fantasy stroy about kyp and his family. There are six great clans that meet each other every year at the Kinaar tree. As kyp tells us the story he's trying to save his family.
This spring when the clans meet each other at kinaar the blizzard comes in and wipes the tree out. Kyp tells the clan to live under ground but it's a forbidden law and so they can't leave.
However the clans understand that they are in danger so they decide to follow kyp to safety underground. At the end he is a hero to each of the clan members
This book was written by Clem Martini who wrote so many books on fantasies. This is my second favorite book because of it's thriller, front cover and adventure. I recommend this book to people with scary thoughts. I hope all you readers will read this breathtaking novel known as The Mob.

Tales from the Perilous Realm

Tales From The Perilous Realm is a collection of four short stories by Tolkien. I picked this book up because it was the only other book by J.R.R Tolkien available from the school library.

My favourite short story from this book is called "Farmer Giles of Ham", which is about a simple farmer who became a village hero after shooting a deaf, stupid giant which trampled his favourite cow. Somewhere in the middle of the story he eventually finds himself on a quest to slay a particularly evil Dragon called Chrysophylax who is terrorizing the kingdom and gain all his riches. The king finds out about this and wants a share of the treasure, and sends some knights to accompany him. In the end, all the knights run away at the sight of the Dragon but Giles stays put. He has a sword that Chrysophylax is afraid of, because it is magical and was made specially for killing dragons. Giles manages to injure Chrysophylax's wing, making him unable to fly. In the end Chrysophylax bargains with Giles; saying that he will give him a large amount of his treasure, carry it to his home and stay with him to protect it. Giles agrees, because he knows if he does not accept, the king will take all the treasure away from him and he will be left with nothing.

Giles enjoys his treasure with his wife and children, and gives a fair amount to his friends and those who helped him organize the treasure and guard Chrysophylax. When Giles is of old age, he finally releases his dragon, who flies home to find a younger dragon taking possession of his hoard, and kills him immediately to repossess his riches.

Another one of the short stories, called "Adventures of Tom Bombadil" is a series of short rhymes. One of the rhymes that appealed to me was called "Perry the Winkle", which is about a lonely troll who has trouble making friends because everyone is afraid of him. He goes to town and finds everyone running away. As he sits down, a little boy approaches him and befriends him. Every Thursday, the boy would go to the Troll's house to have dinner, because he does not have much to eat. Here is a small quote from the rhyme:

"Now Perry-the-Winkle grew so fat
through eating of cramsome bread,
his weskit bust, and never a hat
would sit upon his head;
for Every Thursday he went to tea,
and sat on the kitchen floor,
and smaller the old Troll seemed to be,
as he grew more and more."

In the end of the rhyme, Perry-the-Winkle becomes an enormously fat and famous baker who learned the arts of the Troll's cooking, but still comes to visit him every Thursday to dine together. There are two more short stories in the book, but they are not as enjoyable, and a bit weird too (but somewhat entertaining and very original).

I did not enjoy this book as much as The Hobbit, because they are short stories, and like all short stories, they don't have a lot of depth. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in these type of books that are a bit humorous and contain some of old English.
